Svart Klovn

Svart Klovn is an alias for Svenn Jakobsen from Oslo. He only recorded three tracks under this name, one of which remains unreleased, while two appear on a 7" single on Uniton: "Knust Knekt" b/w "Macho-manifest". On the single, Jakobsen plays all instruments and sings.

Svart KlovnSvart Klovn was one of very few new romantics in Norway, and could regularly be seen wearing neon pink horns, harlekin make-up and stylish costumes about town. His striking visual appearance lead to suggestions of tv work and celebrity status with pictures in the papers et al. His look was very important to him - in an interview in music paper Nye Takter he tells the journalist "you can write whatever you like, but I get control over the images!"

Originally a punk, Jakobsen had played in various groups around the "Tinkern" squat, where he also lived. Like most Norwegian punks, however, he soon tired of three-chord agression, and by 1983 he spoke warmly of Godly & Creme, Fashiøn and "Frontiers"-era Adam Ant. He had chosen a different direction for himself however; commercial dance music, as he called it. ""Knust Knekt" is a pop/disco song, but on the LP there are several tracks where I've given more thought to the beats than to the melody", he said.

He gathered a backing band "The Nightshades" and began recording an LP already in 1983, but it was 1986 before he made another release. By then, Jakobsen had changed his name to Kid Death. The LP, "Satyricon", had a new version of "Knust Knekt" with english lyrics, a cover of Clockwork Orange's "Sensation Boys", an experiment where the sequencer of "Sensation Boys" was played backwards, with new vocals on top, a cover version of Velvet Underground's "Venus in Furs" and a track consisting solely of the members shouting.
